I’m living in Lakewood, Ohio. It’s a suburb just to the west of Cleveland. It’s definitely the most condensed area I’ve ever lived in. According to Wikipedia (yep, I’m using wikipedia as a source) Lakewood’s population density is the highest of any city in Ohio and is roughly comparable to that of Washington, DC. I grew up on seven acres with no close neighbors. Moved to Geneva, where the neighbors were much closer but it was still nothing like this. This is all a brand new experience for me.
I’m actually liking it a lot more than Geneva because although there are more people no one knows who you are. I enjoy being somewhat anonymous to my neighbors (says the heavily tattooed orange haired girl Hah!) Living in the city is pushing me out of my comfort zone in so many ways and I couldn’t be happier about it.
My apartment is fairly small, but the absolute perfect size for me! The living room is large enough to comfortably have my couch, books and things on one side and an office area on the other side. The dining room which is just currently home to Klaus’ crate (I’m still undecided if I should put a table in there) has the most gorgeous built in cabinets that are perfect for all my curiosities. The bedroom is probably the biggest bedroom I’ve ever called mine in my life. My apartment also has four BIG closets, and the BEST natural lighting ever. In case it wasn’t obvious, I’m clearly smitten.
I actually had someone email me to ask about my “downgrade” (move from house to apartment) This is NOT a downgrade to me. I know everyone will have their own opinions on that but I’m just asking you keep any negative vibes to yourself at this time (and forever) because this is a super exciting time for me, it’s exactly what I’ve been needing for a very long time. I’m on my own for the first time ever. I have so much room to grow and so much growing to do. The last thing anyone in the world needs is for someone to unnecessarily rain on their parade.
You can, of course, expect lots more photos and full room tours as soon as I’m completely settled. I can’t wait to share all my new adventures with you all, I have a feeling this is going to be the best summer ever!
xoxo

Congratulations on moving into your new own place! It is looking brilliant. I know how exciting it is to move into your own space to call yours. You will have very good times here, I bet you. Can't wait to see more of it!
This is so NOT a downgrade at all! Your apartment is so lovely and cute, and what's more is that, it is all your own! I can't wait to see more photos, it looks like everything is coming together quite well. Glad you're loving your new town!
I'm so glad that you are happy, and specially as you responded me yesterday on instagram that the kitties and the puppy are doing well. Moving is hard, specially from a quiet place to a not so quiet and more crowded neighborhood. Your apartment look so great already, can't wait to see the rest of the rooms, because miss, you have the best style!
My husband live in a fairly good sized house in the country, but if he were ever to leave this world before I do, I would totally move to something smaller in town. I love that you are loving this time in your life… it's simply a new chapter in your book of life.. xox
How very cute, I want a cat too.

It looks amazing. Living on your own is really exciting and something I think everyone should do at least once. It really teaches you to be independent and it's also nice to just not worry about anyone else sometimes 🙂
Moving somewhere new is always super exciting, it gives you the chance to start doing things you want to do, and the people wont notice any different; because they have no idea who you are!
enjoy
chloe xx
Awwww it looks super cute!! And as i can see your cats love it too!
Love your style and all your little collections there.

Ooh how exciting! Love that you love your place.. Hope you settle in quickly.

Your new place is looking awesome and I couldn't agree more this IS going to be the best summer. PS Love the hahahtonka album photo. Can't wait to see how your new space evolves. Best of Best to you!!!! =)
Your apartment looks so cozy, I love that! Congratulations on the move!
Looks like a great place!! How did you find it?
I was looking at another apartment on Craigslist and the office manager offered to show me a few of the other properties she had available and this was one of them.
Hi Kaylah! I've been reading your blog for a reaaally long time but I've never commented until now. Your entries always manage to make me smile, no matter how poopy I was feeling just moments before. I truly appreciate the time and effort you put into this blog and that your lovely personality shines through. Good luck with your new apartment!
Thank you so much!!! <3
I can see why someone would think it was a downgrade, because we kind of have this more space = always better mentality in the U.S., don't we? We own our house, but we did apartment living for several years and there are definite benefits! I miss being able to call the office and get problems fixed and not being financially responsible for, say, a pipe break or a railing problem.
There's also always the less space = easier to keep clean, cozier, simpler. Plus, a lot of the times space is all about how you use it. We lived in a pretty big 2-bedroom that always felt super crowded, and our one-bedroom we lived in before we bought the house felt more spacious even though it had 200 less square feet. From what I've seen, your living space is always super clean and organized, so I say revel in that big bedroom and enjoy being able to call someone else if the roof ever leaks 😉
I'm not sure why everyone assumes a house is always bigger than an apartment. This place is only very slightly smaller than my old place.
exciting! can't wait for some room tours 🙂
Definitely not a downgrade! What a lovely home and I just love seeing peeks of Mr. Klaus and the kitties 🙂
Cute!!!
How has it been with Klaus? You should look for a dog park so he can run around!
I cannot believe all that natural light in there! It's amazing. So excited for you!
I know! Anything after this will be a "downgrade" in terms of natural lighting. Its pretty overcast today and it's still so bright in here I don't need the lights on.
I know I'm about the millionth person to say it, but that's totes not a downgrade. I'm a little {and when I say a little, I mean a lot} envious of your new adventure as I've never lived by myself. I can see how that would be incredibly awesome sauce and freeing.
Whoever referred to it as a downgrade can shove it.
It looks like a perfect home! Congrats on the move =D
How exciting! I'm thinking of making the move from my house in the 'burbs to an apartment in the city and your enthusiasm is totally encouraging me to seriously start looking for places 😀
Congratulations on your lovely new apartment. It's definitely not a downgrade. I can't wait to see the room tours as I love your style. Apartment living can be great. I live in an apartment bang in the middle of a city and I love having that anonymity when it comes to my neighbours.
Welcome to the neighborhood! I live in Lakewood too! You're gonna love it, and trust me, you'll fit right in!
Thanks! Maybe I'll see ya around sometime! 🙂
Maybe the person who called it "downgrading" didn't mean it in a bad way and maybe meant "downsize" instead? Just thought I'd throw that possibility out there since we'd love to eventually downsize ourselves. Love the natural light in your new apartment and the built-ins are perfect for collections! Looks like you scored big time!
The entire email wasn't polite, I highly doubt that's what they meant.
But hey, thanks! 🙂
Congratulations on the new place! It looks amazing! Gotta love a place with good natural light. I hope you and the pets are all getting settled in nicely!
XOXO

Congrats on the move! Can't wait to see more posts of your new place! I'm so jealous because you're so close to a Melt!! Mmmm!
I am DANGEROUSLY close to Melt, as in it's in walking distance!! I actually just finished up eating some left overs from Melt as I was approving and responding to other comments. Haha!
Haha- I just commented on the need for you to go to Melt! Didn't see this. Sounds like you live in my old neighborhood! Enjoy!
Ah! Looks so cozy and wonderful. I'd love to have a nice space like that one day. College dorms aren't exactly the most spacious living situations :p
You're really brave for stepping out of your comfort zone, it's such an exhilarating feeling! Sending positive vibes for all your new adventures 🙂
Congrats on your new place! Maybe I'm thick or something but I was under the impression that you lived on your own in the house already! It's pretty exciting to be out on your own for sure. 🙂
Your apartment looks awesome and I'm so jealous of all that natural light. We live in a house right now, and the lighting SUUUUUCKS!!! I'd take your apartment over my house any day!
How exciting to be starting this new chapter of your life too!! I can't wait to see what adventures you have!
http://majokkoshop.blogspot.com
Rhetorical question: how the heck did you find an apartment that allows multiple cats AND a dog?! That's a score!
That's definitely a huge change in population density! I'm glad to hear you're liking it, though. That natural lighting is divine!
It's not a downgrade unless you feel like it is, and you totally don't. So it isn't! Your new place looks great, do you have a balcony too? If you do I'm jealous. I love apartments with balconies, I just want to sit and people watch!
bit jealous of all that lovely natural light! our flat is soo dark, apart from one room at the front. your home is looking lovely!
Congratulations! 🙂
so excited for you! love seeing all your collections unpack. and good for you! I love your positive nature and your willingness to let others know that we don't all have the same ideologies and a little bit of positive goes a long way.
Congrats on the new place, it looks wonderful!
Oh wow, I love your new space! Congratulations!
Ugh, I loooove when places have built in cabinets, and yours are so nice to boot! This place looks amazing already. My mother moved a year ago and is still living out of boxes in some rooms of her apartment! You got everything together so quickly. It gives me hope for when I move later this year, lol.
Anyway, the place looks FAB!! Can't wait to see more when it's fully complete! How are the cats adjusting to the change? I've seen so many IG pics of Klaus, and he seems to be happy!
Congrats on your apartment! It already looks so amazing, and like others said, what amazing light! When my husband and I were still dating, I lived alone in a tiiiiiiny studio apartment (about 160 sq ft). It had this mini kitchen and bathroom, but otherwise just one room. And I tend to overdecorate–I like the walls to be covered with art and collectibles! Some people said it was squashed but I loved it. I will always think back fondly on the time I was able to live alone; it was great! Congrats again–can't wait to see more pictures! And always looking forward to more pets of your adorable critters:)
A downgrade?! NO WAY that this is a downgrade. I absolutely love your new apartment and my favorite from it is the windows in your living room. It is perfectly letting all the sun light in thus creating a perfect atmosphere for indoor photos! What a dream 🙂 Are your pets loving it there?
Chamomile Dealer
It's certainly taking time for the cats to adjust but Klaus hasn't really seemed to notice. Hah! He is loving the daily walks we take around the block though.
Your new apartment looks so dang cute! I'm definitely on board with your new place- I'm a huge fan of having a cozy little apartment to myself as opposed to a big house. Definitely not a 'downgrade!' I can't wait to hear about all your new adventures in the city 🙂
Also, how far are you from Cleveland? I may be visiting soon, and I've never been, haha!
I'm about 15 mins away. We'll have to get lunch or something! 🙂
Have you evrr been to The Golden Lamb? Its Ohio's oldest and most haunted hotel, I saw it on a TV special last night and thought of you.
Never heard of it! I'll definitely look it up though, sounds interesting.
Congratulations! Your new apartment looks fantastic already. Every time I've moved, it always taken me FOREVER to unpack my stuff, Go you!
I love that you have a positive attitude in the way you approach new adventures and changes in life. Sang 🙂
Congrats on your move and loving your new place! So happy for you 😀 Your little shots are cute.

I just LOVE your toadstool!!! Congrats on your new home xxx
Looks incredible! I'm totally jealous of all that natural light! 🙂
And I completely know what you mean about big-city-life pushing you out of your comfort zone. Before my move to an ultra-hip San Diego neighborhood, I lived on 4 acres of land in the boonies and never wanted to leave the house by myself. There's something about living in the city that gets you out on your own. It's scary and exciting all at the same time.
I saw you mention the comment about "downgrading" on Instagram and couldn't believe how super rude it is. It's no ones business where you live or why.
It looks like a lovely apartment, and hugely spacious! I used to love having living in the city and having everything on my doorstep, no doubt your gonna have tons of fun! And I always think it's a wonderfully admirable thing when people do anything that takes them out of their comfort zone.
Your apt is awesome and to heck with all those who disagree.
Oh wow… you new place is so cute!! Haha.. I am so sick of my apt and need a makeover ASAP. And that light!! I get no light whatsoever in my place so taking pictures is a bit tough.
I simply adore your curiosities cabinets!
I know this is the wrong place to ask but I noticed on your blog the full post shows which is what I would like. I am having trouble removing the read more with the summary and getting the fully post to show. I tried following tutorials online but I couldn't find in my HTML what exactly I was supposed to delete so I am stuck. Wondering if you could help! Thanks!
I have NO idea! Sorry I can't be of any help!
I don't consider apartments to be a downgrade either. I prefer apartments to houses anyway. How are your fur babies adjusting to the space, do they like too?
It's certainly taking time for the cats to adjust but Klaus hasn't really seemed to notice. Hah! He is loving the daily walks we take around the block though.
Hi, I'm from south of France and want to sent you warmy vibes from our shiny sun.
I think you're not the girl who desirve bad comments so don't pay attention on them.
Just when I decided to send you a mail, you moved. Could you let us know your new adress please ?
Enjoy this moment of discover a place of each treasure you've got.
I still need to go get a PO Box here in this town for the time being I'm still stopping by my old one regularly. As soon as I get a new PO Box, I'll announce it.
🙂
It looks really bright & airy. I love the giant toadstool in the first photo!
Here I was thinking you lived in the house already by yourself? There you go.
Enjoy your new digs, and put a big Kaylah stamp on it.
Congratulations on your new place – your whole new chapter! This is so exciting. I wish you happiness on your new adventure. 🙂
Congrats on the big and exciting move!! I know it change can be both scary AND exciting so I am definitely loving your super cute and positive attitude!! Your apartment looks adorable too – can't wait to see more!
Your apartment looks so lovely!I can't wait to see more!
http://www.mariedarling.com
Woooow! That is a sweet apartment. I live in a college town with loads of crummy expensive apartments, so yours looks like a freakin heavenly mansion to me!! Can't wait to see more picture with what you do with the place! Have FUN!
Your apartment is beautiful! This is the first time I've visited your blog (thanks to Bloglovin, so I have no preconceived judgments. Love all the light in the rooms!
Well, welcome!! 😀
Well, how odd that someone thought it was worth zir time to send you a rude email just because you moved home! Am I alone in finding that bizarre?
Also I am curious, who did you live with before? I don't think I remember you mentioning living with anyone.
I am very envious of your new space. Living alone in a little apartment is exactly what I want to do, but we don't have apartments in Christchurch, NZ except for a couple in the city that are more expensive than renting a house.
Congratulations, is your decision, for some reason is the best for YOU.
Is a great experience live alone, I am now in Costa Rica by myself, I lived in a big house with my mother, my big garden, my car and dogs XDD, and now I don´t have any of that, but I am happy living new experiences, hoping to find more friends and make my life better for me. I am trying you buy succulents, I am also a fan of those amazing "creatures". Enjoy your stay in your new home.
Love the light of your space.
definitely not a downgrade – think of all the time you don't have to spend cleaning a house! And it's all about what suits you.
The natural light is so important. It was the main thing I was looking for when we just bought a new place. I was going stir crazy in our shoe box and needed a house, but people keep judging our decision to buy a 2 bedroom house because it's 'too small'. Well it's the perfect size for us, and ultimately we have to live there and not them.
If it suits you then it suits you.
And it's looking so beautiful already – I love the mushroom and all the cute little touches.
I'm not sure why everyone assumes a house is always bigger than an apartment. This place is only slightly smaller than my old place which will really make no difference in cleaning at all.
Good for you! I wish you all the best with your change and many happy adventures. Even though you said it's not completely arranged, place looks so cute, comfortable and pleasant. Not so long a go I've also moved from from my comfort zone (read:parents), although I did it with my husband, but still we were on our own for the first time and we were very happy about it. It nice when you arrange your life the way is perfectly matches with your desires.
Have a nice day 🙂
I've loved the sneak peeks on Instagram! It looks fabulous! You're making me feel like a slacker because we've been in our house for close to a year and I barely have anything on the walls. Ha such is life sometimes. Looks like a beautiful place!
In what universe is it not completely settled? You are super-uber-quick in organizing and styling your place. I have moved about a year ago and still havent make this progress, hahaha
So happy for you!
Haha! I still need to hang things on the walls and look for some odds and ends (lamps, tables, etc) at the thrift store.
so exciting! i moved into my first on-my-own apartment last year & giving up space was WAY worth it! yours looks super cute too.
No way! I grew up in Lakewood. It's amazing. The arepas place on Madison is the best in the world. Enjoy!
I love Lakewood! My first 2 apartments and my first house were in Lakewood! Enjoy exploring- 2 places I have to recommend- Melt (restaurant) and Nature's Bin (grocery).
Second on Melt! Congratulations! It is exciting to be on your own for the first time!
I really believe that as long as you have a bathtub, apartments are great! 🙂
Hahah! Bathtubs are ALWAYS a must. This place has the biggest tub I've ever had in my life. I can actually get my whole body wet instead of having to decide whether my knees or my chest has to be cold.
"I'm just asking you keep any negative vibes to yourself at this time (and forever)"
A-f*cking-men! Sing it sister! You are a breath of fresh air, thank you so much for sharing this. I went through a similar life change in August and was completely mind blown by how many people seemed determined to rain on my positivity parade. Yes, I could choose to view this change (or any change!) as a negative thing, but instead I'm choosing to be excited about polka dots in every room and loving that there are no complaints when I buy that second gallon of pea green paint.
What.
Of.
It.
You are so inspiring, please keep kicking your comfort zone in the ass! <3
<33333
Long time quiet follower here. Congrats on your fresh start. Give no one the power to rain on your parade because living well is the best revenge.
I currently live in an apartment and love not having the responsibility (and costs) of maintenance other than keeping it clean. I would kill for those built-ins and that natural light though!
Way to go hun! I moved into my very first apartment on my own just this last fall and I'm loving it!! 🙂 I can't wait to see how you make your place your very own!
what a great apartment! I prefer apartments to houses, actually, because they're so much cozier, and I feel there's a lot more you can do with the space to express your personality.
I like how you've made yours your own! I especially love the skeleton poster. and my hubs Brando is really into Palahnuik too, we have most of that collection!
xo
I've lived in lots of different spaces — grew up in a house in the country of Ohio with no neighbors, lived in a small Ohio town, lived in Columbus apartments and houses, Chicago apartments and then my Philly home and back to Chi. I've had various living arrangements with friends and significant others, and even though none of those living arrangements are current any longer, I definitely appreciate the time that I had them.
With that being said, I _personally_ love living on my own. I would say that I learn the most about myself in my me time — how far I can push my work, how creative I can get with my own space, not doing the dishes if I don't feel like it… not wearing pants? Haha. My house in Philly was a 3BR and I "downgraded" to a 1BR apartment. I loved both places for each specific time in my life, and because of that I view them more of lateral moves. It all has its time and place. I'm sorry that anyone had the nerve to be less-than-supportive of your fresh start.
I mentioned on your IG a couple weeks ago that I was excited to see your new place. You, per usual, have not disappointed. It's really a lovely apartment and I love the diamond detail on those windows. I used to live in a really rad apartment in Columbus about five years ago — it had been a hotel in the 20s that was later converted — and it had those same types of built-in bookcases. I LOVED them. Your oddities look amazing in them!
Looks great Kaylah! I can't wait to see more of your new adventures 🙂
ahh! your apartment looks gorgeous!
love the light & all the cozy looking corners!
enjoy the rest of your unpacking & rearranging – change is always a good thing <3
Cheray Natalie x
I love it – the natural light, all the open space, and your mad decorating skillz, yo. Downgrade? I think they meant UPgrade : ) *ducks* but seriously, it's beautiful and you have every right to be proud and happy about it! Speaking of "downgrading" — when my husband and I moved into our first house after our first apartment, I felt super isolated (everyone in our neighborhood was grandparent-age or so it seemed) and I missed our semi-rowdy neighbors… we're back in apartments again (hah) and I can't say I hate it. I'm not sure if I love it but there's always room for improvement 😉 Anyway, you go, girl! Don't let it anybody bring you down. I look forward to seeing/reading more of your lovely new abode (in a non-creepy way, of course). Cheers and humongo congrats!
Your new place looks incredible! I'm so happy for you. I think the biggest feature is all that lovely light! Good luck in the big smokes, and I hope it all works out as great as it looks like it will!
Looks awesome! I'm rather jealous of all of the natural light as I live in a tiny terraced house in the UK with the crappest amount of natural light. So much so that I had to get studio lights for my blog (cheaper than moving I guess!).
Hope it continues to be as exciting and full of opportunity for you and also that the kitties and Klaus settle in well.
http://www.thepeppermintpencil.com
this sounds sooo exciting! Happy for you! we sometimes need to take a step, it might be complicated, but we just have to do it for ourselves! looove how much natural lighting there is!!!!! 🙂
I think people should always keep silent if they don't know the whole story about anything! What might seem to so many as a negative thing, may be the best thing for the person(s) in question. That old adage "If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all." should apply to this kind of situation.
I think your new place is amazing and beautiful. I hope that it helps you grow and blossom as the best you possible. Congrats! 🙂
I love your place! It's coming together so quickly…you know how to make a house a home 🙂
Everybody should live on their one at least once in their life. Enjoy this time and get to know yourself. Freedom seems to only be appreciated when you don't have it now that you have it…run run run!!!
Your new apartment looks beautiful! I am so happy for you. This seems to be a very exciting step in your life and I wish you only happiness and success! 🙂
Your flat is super cute! And it's not small at all! (The flat I lived in after moving from my parents was a one room – the entire apartment was 30 meters square which is about 35 square yards – and I lived there for three years and a half with a pet pig and my boyfriend. It was sometimes hell but it was also a nice time.)
I love the look of this apartment! I used to have a house and I'm actually looking to get an apartment in a new area for a change. I don't see why people always think a house is better or even bigger! I'm glad you have got the apartment you love and on your own! I'm so jealous of you at the moment! Don't let others rain on your parade 🙂 x
Congrats on the move! 😀
I can't wait to read about your new adventures in your new place/town!
I've never had full independence like that before, so it's kind of like seeing a dream coming true!
Congrats! Your place looks amazing!
I hate the moving/packing process. But the putting things where you want them part and calling it your own is wonderful. Can't wait to see a full tour!
Looks like a great place; I like your style. I have a Chuck Palahniuk collection too 🙂
Sincerely,
Buffalo Britty
http://www.buffalobritty.blogspot.com/
Downgrade? I would KILL (well probably not kill…) to live in a beautiful apartment like that! It looks so spacious compared to the apartments I've lived in~
Your place is coming together so nicely! I've been too scared to live on my own, so congrats on making the move! I'm super happy that you're super happy! 🙂
Looks and sounds like a great apartment. I especially like those cabinets. And even more so what's in it!!! Cool stuff you have. But we already knew that, right?;-)
It looks fantastic! Congrats on your wonderful new home. 🙂 This post will surely serve as decor inspiration in the near future.
Your new place is lovely!! Living on your own is awesome, you can do anything you like without worrying about what anyone else wants! Also, congrats on all of your all-around progress, you say moving into the city has helped you get out of your comfort zone but I've been noticing a growing confidence and independence for a while now on your blog, maybe since the drivers license. You should be proud of yourself, you are doing good work on yourself and it's leading to a fuller life, this is just one more step in your progress/journey! Go Kaylah! #teamkaylah
Sounds like you've made such an exciting move and it's great to read your feelings on this next phase in your life. I've recently moved into my first apartment/flat too and it's super inspiring to see your photos and read your thoughts on the subject, so thank you!
Plus, all that natural light? TO DIE FOR 🙂
Congrats on this new season and adventure!
I think your apartment looks super nice! (I wish I had some natural light like that!).
it looks great kaylah! congrats on your move! i lived alone for two years in college and i LOVED IT. it was hard at first because i was so used to having my family around (and we lived in the middle of nowhere) but it really made me get out there and be less shy. i've been reading your blog for years and i have to say i've loved watching how much fun you seem to be having lately!
maaaaan i have definitely missed out on some important things around here! first thing's first though, congrats on your new place!! the natural lighting in there is amazing!!! i hope your pup and cats love it there as much as you do! looking forward to your fully settled in photos!!

I was actually considering a move to Lakewood or the Tremont area, but I might be moving out of state (or country), so I have to see what happens when I finish my classes up.
The new place looks super cute! I have a house with someone I recently split up with and although he has moved out/I've found a roommate to finish out the lease with me… I keep thinking about how nice a little solo apartment would be! I have a baking business though and I've never seen an apartment with a kitchen big enough to fit my needs. ;(
Glad to see pictures of the cats, you had me worried for a second. Your new apartment looks wonderful and if your previous interior decorating you've shared is anything to go by I'm sure you'll make it even more wonderful as you put your own stamp on it 🙂
Your new place looks great. Congrats on the flat and also on unpacking everything so quickly (I moved a year ago and still have some boxes).
As for the "downgrade" issue, I'm more of a flat-in-a-city person than a house-on-its-own person, and I love how people don't know me around.
Having a nest of ones own is one of the best things that can happen, and I'm glad you found yours.
We bought our first place last summer, a two bed flat in South London, and I love it. It was built circa 1900 and has the highest ceilings with the tallest windows. I love living in a flat, when I'm here on my own over night I feel so much safer than I did in my parents' house. Congratulations on an ace find!
Super excited for you dude. Independence is awesome and feels rad and nobody should ever try and take that away from you! My husband and I are renting a townhome and I think it's PERFECT for us right now even though many of our friends are buying mansions for their growing families. You do what's best for you! Cheers!
