found on the beach

by Kaylah Stroup

Another rainbow edition of my found on the beach series. After I put this one together I realized maybe this wouldn’t be the best way to do them from now on since it looks so similar to the last one. Although, I do like this one much better without the white, black and grey section on the end. With the rainbow layout you’re looking more at the colors than the objects, at least I am anyway. It’s obviously way more visually appealing spread out like this, I’m just worried they’ll all start to look the same. Yeah, I’m definitely over thinking trash right now.

Anyway, I’m really excited about this set. I think there are so many neat little gems in there. My favorite thing to find will always be little people and animals.

Quick FAQ – things that get asked every Found on the Beach post.
Do you keep the things you pick up? No way. Once in a while I’ll keep something I really think is neat but I’m no hoarder.
What do you do with it when you’re done? I toss it in the trash where it belongs.
Was this really all from the beach in one day? For the
most part, yes. Sometimes if I find something I really think is neat on a
day I’m not collecting for a photo I’ll pick it up and hang on to it
until the next time I want to put together one of these.
Do you wear gloves? No, I don’t. These are things that
were washed up on the shore, not things simply left behind. They’re no
dirtier than the sand or water.

I am always blown away by the amount of dental picks you find on the beach. Who knew that was preferred place to floss?!

Kaylah October 28, 2014 - 11:19 pm

Right?! I didn't realize people actually used them!

What a fun thing to do! It looks so pretty all lined up like that. And the little obsessive compulsive disorder person in me is really enjoying this post. x kayleigh // mylittlejeans

That is so cool – creating art and cleaning up the environment at the same time! Makes me wish I lived near a beach.

I know! The best thing is I found it on my walk back to the other side of the beach. So I had already walked past it once.

I love these posts! I still can't believe you find all of these things on the beach on one given day.. Definitely don't see cool stuff like this on California beaches! Beautiful photos, as always. 🙂

Trash isn't exactly "cool stuff", but thanks! 🙂

The other day I was thinking "man, the beach where Kaylah goes have so much garbage, people really don't care about enviromment". Then on the same day I went on a 8 km walk on the beach with my dog I saw that it had so much garbage I could do myself a beach serie, only with fishing materials xD

Love this series 🙂

Kaylah October 28, 2014 - 11:22 pm

Hah! That's funny. I don't seem to find too much fishing stuff. Guess every beach has it's own problems.

I think it would be cool if you left a "constellation" a couple of days and came back to see if someone maybe added to it, or picked some pieces up! And then you could throw it away. I would be thrilled to find something like this on the beach! Where I live ( in Norway) there is not much trash on the beach, but I like to organize rocks after their colors, maybe I´ll try to take some pictures of it:) These posts are some of my favorites on your blog! thanks for inspiring!:)

Kaylah October 30, 2014 - 1:14 pm

The thing is it would probably get washed back into the water. I would LOVE to leave it there for other people to enjoy, these rainbow ones especially, but I just don't think it would be there when I came back.

These posts always make me want to go looking for trash to pick up, just to see what neat things I would find! Haha.

Kaylah October 30, 2014 - 1:14 pm

Haha. Glad to inspire you to play with trash! 😛

I love these temporary artworks you create. There are always such interesting knick knacks hidden in there. It kind of reminds me of the "I Spy" books from my childhood. I think it's brilliant that you have found such a creative way to turn trash into something beautiful (I also think it's really noble of you to put it in the bin afterwards too!).

I was reading an article this week about a shipping container that spilled lego pieces into the ocean in 1997 and pieces are still washing up on the beaches and it made think of your beach series, and if any had ended up in your collections 🙂
