I suppose you could call this a gratuitous plant post, I just wanted to share some photos of my succulents. I am seriously so proud of these lil guys. I’ve never in my life had plants that were this happy, and growing this well. Taking photos of them is something I do often… maybe a little too often but it’s so much fun to be able to look back at a photo from the beginning of summer, last month, or even last week and see how much a certain plant has grown.
The weather will be changing soon and they’ll have to be moved inside for the winter. I’m a little bit nervous to see how they do being back inside. I’m worried there just won’t be enough sunlight inside but I guess the worst thing that can happen is they get leggy, and I have to propagate which just leaves me with more plants to play around with!
For the longest time I could never figure out how people got such nice full arrangements. I would try buy smaller plants and stuff them into a planter but it would never look the same. Growing my own plants has allowed me to finally achieve the look I have loved this whole time. So one my plant goals for next year is to work on my arrangements. Above is one of my favorites. The variety of colors, shapes, and textures is just perfect. I’m pretty proud those are all plants that started from a single leaf.
Along with probably twice the number of succulents, since I’m a lot less picky of an eater I think next year I want to grow some things of my own to eat. Kaylah’s pepper farm?! I just want to grow all the things. Gardening is so rewarding. Any of you guys grow anything this year you’re excited about?
xoxo

My garden has been super fickle this year, I had mint, which is considered a weed here, die on me! What the what?! We moved to a house with a small bay window greenhouse but half of my plants hated it and now live on the porch. Im very proud of a Ruellia (Ragin Cajun) that was a present last summer, it's an annual but is going on its 3rd year of life!!! Also some geraniums heading for the same birthday! My succulents hated me this year and died in record numbers. Not sure why, but i'll be back at it in the spring.
That's so awesome. I can't wait to live somewhere for a long enough time that I can plant and then see the annuals come and go.
It's funny that garden is so addicting that even when ya have a bad year ya still want to do it again the next.
I planted some herbs and veggies for the first time this year and while I killed a few of em, my cherry tomatoes, jalapeños and all of my herbs did really well! The cherry tomatoes were probably the most fun just because the plant produced veggies so quickly and frequently. I'm in Tennessee which I think is a similar gardening zone to Ohio in the summer- I would be curious to see what veggies you choose to plant!
Quick and fast is so satisfying when gardening! I'll have to keep the tomatoes in mind. I'm not huge on tomatoes but I'm sure if I grew them I could find something to make with them.
You should totally be proud! This is a great collection!

Thanks, Rachael! 😀
Your pictures are gorgeous! I do not have a green thumb at all, but these plants look like something I can totally handle.
Thanks, Danyell! 🙂
The good thing about succulents is that even if you have a black thumb they take so long to die you get to enjoy them for a while! Haha.
I wish I had a greener thumb, I'd love to have an assortment of succulents like that. Sadly I only have one surviving plant at the moment. sigh.
Aw! Too bad! But hey, one plant is better than none!
<3 !!!
🙂
Thanks to all the crazy rain we had this summer, my tomato plants grew to be a over a whopping 7 feet tall. They overtook the fence and started drooping into the neighbor's yard. By August, I finally started being able to eat them, and they were DELICIOUS.
But that's the only thing I was able to grow this year. All my other veggies died.
My flowers did great though! The sweet potato vines and the dusky miller are still looking fantastic in their witchy plastic cauldrons!
HOLY SMOKES! That's awesome! Sad your others died, but way awesome about the tomatoes.
My advice for veggies: Get seedlings started as soon as possible/plant the biggest ones you can find at the start of the season. I'm actually going to go a bit bonkers this year, and start growing things from seed indoors in Jan/Feb. Partially because I want weird varieties of heirloom tomato that you can't get at Meijer, but also because indoor gardening makes winter less miserable.
Of course, that's like half the reason I started growing things – indoor gardening makes everything better.
Such beautiful plants, I'm positively green with envy! My plants, while surviving, really need some sorely lacking outside space. Hoping I can keep them alive long enough to find a garden for them in our next apartment 🙂 really stunning pictures!
Thanks, Kate! Good luck apartment hunting. I couldn't imagine going back to a place without a deck now that I have one. I love sitting out there with my plants.
That propagation piece you posted has helped my plants to no end (especially the misting of the pups tip) :3 My succulents and I thank you so much ;D xxxx
I'm so glad to hear that!!!! 😀
This is the first time in years that I am able to grow my own stuff! I've lived in apartments in historical areas, meaning no ledges, porches, backyards, or decks. So it meant doing everything inside and I wasn't down with that. Now my husband and I own a townhouse/condo and we have a small deck so I think next year I want to grow some ground cherries and grasses. I might steal some succulents from my boss and try and plant them as well.
Awesome. Good luck growing things! 🙂
Your arrangements are so lovely! The pots all look so wonderfully full and happy. 🙂
Since moving I've bought quite a few succulents. I love them, but a lot of them are getting leggy (I guess I don't get enough sun indoors). I'm definitely going to try propagating them in the spring and creating a nicer sunny environment for them, perhaps outdoors.
You don't have to wait until Spring! Actually, if you wait too long they may die and fall off on their own.
I love your little bouquets!
Thanks! 😀
I love your arrangements!! I think the one with the tiny cactus is my favorites. My parents love to grow their own tomatoes because they are super easy. This year they cleared a piece of land to do a bunch of vegetable growing and it was awesome. My friend also grows his own basil and tomatoes on a porch in the city!!
Aren't those little tiny cactus just too cute!?
