▴ Don’t freak out over wedding stuff. I mean… easier said than done, right? I just want planning to go as smooth as possible and to not get hung up on the details. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely be sharing a lot more about the wedding very soon!
▴ Figure out a more productive schedule. In 2017 I realized that I’m most productive very early in the morning (before 7am) and late at night. The problem with that? I try to adhear to Jeff’s 8-5 work schedule. This year I want to plan a way to best utilize my productivity. Maybe it means waking up earlier, or not going to bed at the same time as him a few nights a week. I just want to find what works best for me because I am sure as heck not productive in front of a computer during the middle of the day.
▴ Clean out my closet. I take pride in keeping a pretty darn clean home. The problem is our apartment has very minimal closet space and the one I’ve claimed as my own looks like a dang tornado hit it. This year I will find a way to keep it clean for more than a week at a time.
▴ Make bedroom lovely. I’d like to think I’m pretty good at decorating. My office is cute, my living room is the coolest but my bedroom? It’s not so great. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not the worst place but I could do better. In every apartment I’ve ever lived in my bedroom has been my last priority but I really want to work hard to make this space somewhere I’m excited to go each night! Before 2018 is over, I will share photos of the bedroom whether or not it’s done. (It’s gonna be done though!)
▴ Seek positivity. Less movies, tv shows, and documentaries about murder, and crime. More positive media and influences! As much as I love watching things about true crime, I feel like I need less of that in my life. I purposely don’t watch sad movies because they effect my mood so why would true crime be any different. It’s SO so sooo important to surrond yourself with positivity, in 2018 I will do more of that!
▴ Make more videos. Last year I made a short video for Joico Color Butter. (Watch it here!) It was my very first video and I couldn’t be more proud of how it turned out. Video was something I had been meaning to fool around with for a while and that ended up being the perfect push… Except I haven’t made anything since. I’m gonna change that. Can’t say it’s something you’ll be seeing super regularly but I’d love to experiment with it a bit more!
▴ Diversify content. I feel like The Dainty Squid is fairly diverse but there are definitely subjects that I feel a little bit weird blogging about …even though I have no reason to at all. Make-up is one of those things for sure. It’s 2018 and I’m over it. Expect make up, food, and so much more here on the blog with zero apologies!
▴ Challenge my photography skills. Maybe practice with lighting. Maybe fool around with photoshop a bit more. In 2018 I want to continue to expand my knowledge and grow my skills.
▴ Send Christmas cards. Simple as that. First year as a married couple seems like a dang good reason to make some stellar Christmas cards!
▴ Cook one new meal a month. We ended the year by finally buying a small kitchen table so I want to use this as a reason to expand my lil roster of things I know how to make. It’s so easy to get into habits and just make the same things over and over. I’m planning on sharing updates on this goal as the year progresses.
▴ Get insurance –> go to the dentist + doctor! Not going to lie, a major bonus to getting married this year is getting on Jeff’s awesome insurance. I’ve been talking big game about all the appointments I want to make and how I want to go get my teeth worked on, and so on and so on. It’s easy to talk when you don’t actually have the insurance yet though. Me writing this here means I have to make all those appointments when I finally have insurance again.
▴ Go on at least two road trips. No explaination needed.
▴ Spend more time outside. More sunshine on my back, more wind in my hair, more fresh air in my lungs. I’m writing this as someone who has barely spent any time outside the last few weeks. It’s so cold but I miss being outdoors. Here’s to a year where I stop using the weather as an excuse to why I’m staying inside. Walks in the rain are relaxing, and I own more than enough clothes to layer and stay warm.
Here’s to making 2018 the best year ever!
