Abandoned Auditorium

by Kaylah Stroup
On my birthday, Jeff and I went to one of the places we went on our first date. It’s kind of funny actually, I was SO incredibly shy he didn’t know whether or not I was having a good time. He swears I showed a total lack of emotion that day. I didn’t even pull out my camera once. I was overwhelmed, in a really good way. I was with this cute guy who took me somewhere I thought was incredibly cool. I was looking at all these spots in the building thinking “oh man, this would be a great spot for a first kiss!” At one point we even went up on the roof, and I thought “this is it, he’s gonna do it now!” Nope. Haha! Anyway, ever since then I’ve been itching to go back there and shoot it.Two main things I’ve noticed about this building:
1. There are a lot of shoes in this place. Basically every room has at least one shoe in it. And they’re awful shoes. They remind me of being seven or eight and getting all the shoes my aunt wanted to put in the family garage sale, just ugly bridesmaid shoes. (Totally loved them when I was that young though, nothing better than dress up shoes! I mean, c’mon!)
2. Weird chairs! Are they melting? Jeff says they’ve slowly been doing this for a long time. What exactly is happening here?!

You were sooooooo quiet the first time we met!!! I wasn't about to try to kiss you even though I really wanted to.

I love you!!!!

This is so haunting. I want to write a series of creepypastas based on your abandoned-building adventures.

Excellent photos as usual. And aww, I think the shoes are pretty cute! I do love my gaudy vintage, though.

That sounds like it could be pretty cool!!

Thanks! 🙂

That's an awesome gif. I scrolled past it and I was like "Wait did that picture MOVE?" Also what a great story about yall's first date. No one ever takes me cool/ interesting places like that!

Kaylah August 13, 2014 - 6:18 pm

That's exactly what I wanted with the gif, for people to scroll past it and then think "did that move?"!!

I love hearing about how your first date went! That is an awesome story and I am glad you went back to take pictures. And you're absolutely right – those are totally dress up shoes! I wonder how they got there? I also like the gif! It does have that effect of "wait did that just move?!". I imagine that in the not so distant future that it would be odd of pictures not to move! Gifs have been slowly taking over and it reminds me of Harry Potter and all the pictures moving.

That cinematograph in the middle is beautiful! The drips are just perfect! It's awesome to revisit sentimental places, because like you, I often forget to photograph them the first time around!

Your photos of abandoned places are always so fascinating! I especially like the discovery of the vintage shoes. So funny and strange.

Also, this may be a little random, but I was looking through vintage travel pennants on eBay, and found this lot of 6 that includes one from South of the Border. I know you mentioned visiting South of the Border in a previous blog entry and I think I remember you saying that you really enjoyed it? I may be wrong, but I thought you might be interested! http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-OF-6-VINTAGE-EAST-COAST-TRAVEL-SOUVENIR-PENNANTS-rare-1960s-70s-/390454559481?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5ae8e7c2f9

Holy smokes, that South of the Border one is amazing. I loved that place!

Whoa. The moss in that last photo is terrific. It's like all-natural shag carpeting. Hah! (That's what it is, right?) The dripping water gif is great too.

Kaylah August 14, 2014 - 11:27 am

Hahah! That is exactly what moss is! I can't believe I've never thought of that before.

I laughed out loud reading that (Shawn actually asked "Uh, are you ok over there?" haha), but I can totally relate. I actually still kept a diary when I first met Shawn and after our first kiss I wrote "Did I kiss him back? Did I close my eyes? Was I awkward?".

And, although I exude self confidence most of the time, I'm totally shy in new situations. When I met you I felt like I was so awkward! I still feel bad about having you pay for ice cream!!!

Also, I love the little gifs you've been making lately. What are you using to make those? I've only ever used external gif makers and they lack quality.

Kaylah August 15, 2014 - 8:12 pm

Hahahah. That's really cute!

Exactly, new situations are hard for me. Hah, I felt awkward when we met too!

Thanks you! I'm using photoshop CS5
