Eight and a half months ago I got my earlobes reconstructed. I had started stretching them over thirteen years ago. After nine years of having them at 38mm, and hundreds of dollars in jewelry, I finally decided it was time to say goodbye. I’ve chronicled the journey (with lots of photos) fairly throughly and now it’s time to move on to the next chapter.
What’s the next chapter? Finally getting my cute new earlobes repieced and starting an epic earring collection!
As you may have seen, I got my ears pierced back toward the end of April. It was painless, and they healed up quick. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am to start wearing cute earrings. Loving that statement earrings are so popular right now too. Its made it easy for me to quickly build up a fun collection. Maybe a little too easy.
Just so things wouldn’t get out of control, I made it a rule that I couldn’t buy any earrings until I got my ears pierced. Obviously I bought a pair to celebrate the new piercing and I guess I’ve just been celebrating a whole bunch since then because my collection is already pretty darn awesome. I can’t imagine what it’ll look like in another year if I keep going at this rate.

I wore no.12 on my wedding day! They were also the first pair I bought.
And, finally, my current storage situation. Not a good one, clearly. I take that back, it looks fine in this photo but this photo was taken fairly early on. The number of earrings has more than doubled. I think it’s time to suck it up and buy an earring rack like this one.
Now I leave you with two questions – How do you store your earrings? & Where is your favorite unexpected spot to find cute earrings? Right now I’m loving Target’s earring selection. Not super surprising because Target always has cute stuff but I’ve been picking up a pair nearly every time I go there!

Nice collection. I love Going to Global gifts (they have a few stores in IN and OH, but you can buy online too): they are a non-profit store featuring fair-trade products from all over the globe (focusing on women artisans). I just love what they sell and they have so many (and affordable) earrings that about half of my pretty big collection is coming from their store. Random strangers stop me in the street to ask about my earring all the time! And I love that I’m buying items made by a person that was paid fairly for their work (I’m not sure it’s always true for Target stuff unfortunately…).
I’ve used earring racks before, back when my collection was bigger – they work well, but I find it annoying to have to put the earrings back on them at the end of the day when I’m done wearing them! I’ve since moved on to a more curated collection, which are all studs and get tossed into a cute little glass bowl with my other essential jewelry.
I’ve been really into Madewell’s earrings lately… although these days, I primarily wear things I order through my piercer! I like all of the different gem options from BVLA, but I like that you can anodize titanium pieces from other companies like Anatometal (since BLVA works with precious metals only). But probably my favorite part is that I don’t have to deal with butterfly backs! Makes leaving a pair on for long periods of time waaaaay nicer.
🙂
Yay, they look so good on you! Such a different look from the gauges; it just feels like a natural progression of your style. Love them!
🙂
Beautiful earring collection! The earrings look great on you! I made myself earring storage by upcycling old window screen and putting it in an old picture frame. I make jewelry and like to collect handmade and vintage jewelry.
They look wonderful on you!!! I went from gauges to regular as well and love it!!!
I have a storage system much like the one you have linked. It’s been discontinued and I have to say it kinda sucks for dangly earrings but I’m making do, I made my own jewelry board and can hang big ones on there.. I love finding earrings at thrift stores!! Weird retro stuff is the best!!! Mine are mostly hand me downs too.
A tip I learned, when you travel put your earrings in a button, then they stay together and keep their backs! And wine cork bits work as backs in a pinch!!
❤️❤️
So jelly. I love those scarab earrings. Well, I pretty much love all dangly earrings.
Saaaaame!
J Crew has a KILLER jewelry collection. Marley and Alfie for pompoms and I’m Your Present for fun themed earrings (food, characters, etc) in laser cut acrylic. Oh and Bauble Bar!
I store mine in a glass curiosity case but it’s not the BEST option. It’s working for now but it’s FULL.
Love your collection so far!!
Thank youuuuu for this list, Kristina! You have the best collection of earrings!!!
I have a cute little spinning earring stand that I store my earrings on! It has 4 tiers, and just spins around to make all my earrings easy access. I also find really cute earrings at World Market. They have some good prices on them, too. I think I’ve bought my last few pairs there.
Where’d ya get the stand? I feel like I’m having the hardest time finding cute ones!
World Market always has awesome stuff! I’ll definitely have to check out their selection.
What a fun collection! I’m a jeweler myself, so I have a TON of earrings – both made by me and other artists. For storage I found a full length mirror on amazon that is a full length jewelry box! It’s amazing. It can hang over a door or get mounted to the wall, and when you open the mirror/door, you’ve got two walls of earring, ring and necklace storage. It seriously changed my life! Plus, then you can see all your jewelry at once, which makes choosing what to wear easier.
Ohh! That’s a great idea! I’ll have to go looking for one of those.
