    found in the woods…

by Kaylah Stroup December 20, 2020

Sunday afternoon. Jeff is outside in the woods. I’m at my computer editing a long overdue house update Youtube video. He texts me a photo very similar to the one above and says “Yes, that’s a Roman soldier on a horse half-buried in our yard.” I threw on my boots and ran full speed back into the woods.

He was looking for our property line when he spotted what looked like the corner of a large stone. He started brushing away some of the leaves and debris which uncovered parts of the first horse and soldier.

More debris removal, and a little bit of wiggling freed this beast!

We rushed it back to the house, hooked the hose which had already been put away for the season back up and gave it an initial cleaning. I then dragged it up to the bathtub and gave it one final rinse!

We’re both just absolutely over the moon and convinced it has to be hung in the house. I assume since it was on our property that at one point it was probably in here.

I’m honestly at a loss for words right now. 2020 has been a whack year but oh my gosh, it has definitely contained some of my most favorite moments. This is one of them.

This is totally the start of a horror movie though, right?!
