adventures in avocado propagation – an update

    adventures in avocado propagation VII

by Kaylah Stroup November 13, 2018

    November 2nd, 2018

Around eleven months ago I popped my first avocado pit in a small container of water with the hope of growing something. My end goal has never been to grow my own avocados. (It would take many, many years!) Instead, I simply wanted to watch something I would normally have thrown in the trash grow.

If you’ve been following along, you may have noticed how my updates have been a little more spaced out. It’s been a couple months since my last avocado pit post. The growth hasn’t been all the noticeable as of late. Things are definitely changing and growing but it’s just not as dramatic as the process of root growth.

I still want to share updates though! In another few months I know I’ll want a reference photo to see how they’re doing comparatively. Growing avocado pits is such a terribly slow process that without photos, I might feel defeated. Being able to track their growth through photos really helps keep me motivated and excited.

Look at those big leaves on the one in dirt! They get big but honestly, never look at that healthy. They also brown at the ends after a few weeks which is why they aren’t in any other photos after this one. I pinch them off the second I notice them looking any worse than this.

Have you started your own avocado pits yet!?

  • found on the beach – 56 lighters

by Kaylah Stroup November 8, 2018

For years I’ve been intriqued by the number of lighters that wash up on the beach. I find a wide variety of things in the sand, as seen in my arrangements, but the lighters! There are always just so dang many of them. The first time it really stuck out to me was 2014, I …

I got my collecting gene from my dad. We both love junk. He doesn’t necessarily collect things like I do but he certainly loves to buy them. His Saturday mornings are spent auctioning and he’s a huge fan of a dollar box. If you aren’t familiar with auctions, larger items and things that are worth …
