what we wore : twins!

by Kaylah Stroup December 17, 2012

 details
glasses – BonLook
sweater – Modcloth
dress – Modcloth
necklace – c/o Hannah Zakari
belt – thrifted
ring – c/o Sea of Bees
tights – Modcloth
shoes – Romwe
When Elycia showed up to my house with the same dress as one I had I knew we had to wear them together, no matter how dorky that would be! We talked about how it would be neat to show how we’d style the same dress but in reality that kind of failed because we have extremely similar styles – a dress + a cardigan + long necklace + tights + snazzy shoes = the perfect outfit to us, clearly. I think it’s kind of funny we even wore the same cardigan just in different colors. Great minds think alike I suppose. 😉

Hope you have an excellent Monday!

Weekly Nail

by Kaylah Stroup November 25, 2012

Supplies used…
American Apparel Lopez Canyon
Coastal Scents Azalea
Seche Vite as a top coat
Nail stickers (blogged about here // bought from here)

How gorgeous are these!? I am smitten! I think I’ll be repainting these again soon, maybe even in the same color scheme.

Sometimes I spend too much time trying to find fun color duos and forget that sometimes the prettiest color combinations are right beside each other on the shelf. (you can see my nail polish collection here) Also, I realized I need a good red polish, this one chips quite quickly. It’s also literally the only red polish I own, which seems kind of funny since red seems like a really standard polish color. I normally tend to shy away from it but this combo has me itching to try red more often.

Hope you’re having an excellent Sunday!

Supplies used…
Zoya Dove
Wet n’ Wild Wet Cement
American Apparel Malibu Green
Seche Vite as a top coat
Nail stickers (blogged about here // bought from here)

I love this combo so much! Gray and blue go so nicely together, in my opinion. This shape nail sticker is definitely one of my favorites from the bunch. Whenever I browse back through my weekly nail posts the ones I used this shape for normally stick out the most – like this one and this one! It just always looks so pretty!

Supplies used…
Zoya  Goldie
American Apparel Lopez Canyon
Scotch Tape
Seche Vite as a top coat

These aren’t my neatest nails but I really couldn’t resist posting them. I just love the colors together! In retrospect I think it would have looked a little bit better if my zigzags on each nail were the same size and in the same place instead of making each nail different. But I still think they’re super pretty. I’m excited to try this design with more colors.

Hope you’re having an excellent Sunday!

Weekly Nail

by Kaylah Stroup September 30, 2012

Supplies used…
Essie Mojito Madness
Milani Fresh Teal
Fresh Paint Spruce Street
Seche Vite as a top coat
Nail stickers (blogged about here // bought from here)

This color combo was kind of an accident. I picked out the two green shades and paint those only to realize it looked a little too similar to this combo I did a little while back so I added another stripe on the top. Why I chose a blue I’m not sure (I’m not really a big fan of blue and green together) Luckily the green appears blackish instead of it’s actual color so it looks pretty cool.

I’ll end with a photo of Lloyd. It’s not the best photo of him, but it accurately shows what he does daily.  I want to bring him in so bad. He’s seriously the sweetest thing. Every morning he’s waiting outside our sliding glass door waiting for breakfast and he’ll usually sleep on the deck for a while before heading off to do whatever he does all day. Then he comes back in the evening for dinner and hangs out some more. On the day I took these picture he was being exceptionally lovey. The whole time I was taking pictures he was ramming into my legs with his cute little head. I just want to pick him up, spin him around and kiss him…but I’ll just settle for scratching his belly.

Well, I hope you’re having a fabulous weekend.

Supplies used…
Zoya Dove
Sally Hansen Thinking of Blue
Wet n’ Wild Wet Cement
Zoya Dree
OPI A Taupe the Space Needle
Essie Sew Psyched
Sally Hansen Gray by Gray
Revlon Hot for Chocolate
Seche Vite as a top coat
Nail stickers (blogged about here // bought from here)

It’s been a while since I’ve done half and half nails (I think this might have been the last time) and I’m hooked again. I’m especially crazy about these ones. I wanted to do something a little darker, and not to summer-y, I feel like these fit the bill well.

Every time I start to get used to how awesome Seche Vite is I notice something new. I knew that it made my nails shiny but that first picture they’re sooo glossy. I love having really shiny nails. I don’t know what I did before discovering it. It’s 100% the best top coat out there! What’s your favorite top coat? (Also, for everyone out there that always asks how to get your nails to chip not as quickly – Seche Vite!! Give it a spin.)

Hope you’re having an excellent Sunday!

Girl in Blue

by Kaylah Stroup July 12, 2012

For as long as I can remember I’ve been interested in cemeteries, ghosts and all things macabre. In middle school I remember pouring over Haunted Ohio books, and day dreaming about visiting all the spooky places Ohio has. Many years later I’m still interested in these types things except with a little (okay, a lot) less emphasis on the haunted, I’m a big fraidy cat. But I still love cemeteries. I love looking at all the old headstones, figuring out how old people were and pondering what they were like.

I found Ace’s blog Mortuary Report a little while ago when she commented on a photo of my mine on instagram. I was instantly smitten with her blog and read through a lot of it. While browsing I found a post about the girl in blue.

“For sixty years, the young lady who had been hit by a train near aboarding house in Willoughby was simply known as “The Girl in Blue.” No one knew who she was, where she was going or who to contact about her death on Christmas Eve 1933. She carried no identification, only 90cents and a ticket to Corry, Pennsylvania. She wore a blue dress andblue shoes.

McMahon Funeral Home adopted this young lady’s funeral arrangements. Local donations paid for a headstone and flowers. More than 3,000 local residents went to McMahon Funeral Home to bid farewell to a girl they never knew.

Her identity remained amystery of national interest until a local newspaper story commemorating the sixtieth anniversary of her death sparked a reader to contact a title agency that researched records from the sale of properties in Warren County, Pennsylvania. State authorities determined that Josephine Klimczak was The Girl in Blue. Lake County records, however, have not changed the death certificate; she is still listed as The Girl in Blue” -from findagrave.com

When I read where this headstone was – I had to visit! Willoughby, Ohio is only a short jaunt away from my house! I set out that week to find the girl in blue. It was so stinken hot that day! I had read on some review site (yep, people review cemeteries!) that the headstone was in one of the far corners of the cemetery. I hunted and hunted for it until finally realizing I couldn’t spend all day out in that heat looking. I got on my phone and found a photo of the headstone and picked some identifying features around it so I could try and spot those. After a few minutes I found a tree with three trunks and sure enough right under it – there she was!

Judging by the pennies, and mint I’d say she’s well visited! I see in other pictures of her headstone that there used to be flowers but when I visited there were none. I’d like to go plant some soon!

I wonder how I went so long without knowing how close I was to something so neat! I went to the book store afterwards and grabbed a big stack of books about strange things in Ohio to plot some trips to make in the future. I’m so excited to visit all the other awesome things I didn’t even know that my state housed.

Weekly Nail

by Kaylah Stroup March 18, 2012
I’m a little tardy to the party with this whole using paper reinforcement sticker to make perfect little half moons thing but in my defense – I had some vintage ones that apparently weren’t the quality that new ones are (that’s seriously a first!) and it just wasn’t working. But now that I gave it another try I’m mildly obsessed. I have a page in my notebook scribbled with all the different designs I could make with the stickers, I can’t wait to have a chance to try them out.

Supplies used:
Essie in Sew Psyched
Sally Hansen Smooth and Perfect in Dune
Seche Vite as a top coat
Reinforcement Labels

I’m also a little obsessed with nude-ish colors. I like how it doesn’t really look like you’re wearing polish at all and makes other colors really pop. I have a few neon colors I’d really like to pair it with!

PS. A tip for the reinforcement stickers, just like scotch tape, they work a lot better and are easier to use after you’ve placed them on your hand. This way they’re not so sticky and come off your nail without leaving residue or taking nail polish off.
