Last week Jeff invited to come along with him while he worked on a photography project. We hiked to a waterfall, skateboarded a bit, and visited a community garden. It’s so late in the year that most everything was past it’s prime but there were still a handful of flowers, looking beautiful as ever. I took the opportunity to take lots of photos.

I kind of hate, okay – I really really hate, that flower photography is considered cheesy. Maybe I just think it’s cheesy? I feel like I’ve seen multiple places where people’s reactions to flower photos are how boring they are and that just kind of sticks in my head no matter how much I don’t want it to. With things I grow myself I at least feel like maybe a photo can be appreciated because of that, and people won’t feel so much like “it’s a flower, so what?” Actually, I’m not sure why I, or anyone at all, should ever feel the need to justify their photos. I know I shared some black and white photos I took a little while back that I had been holding on to because I didn’t feel like they fit the aesthetic my blog had but putting creative limits on something is always a really really bad idea. It felt really good to share those photos. So, on that note, here are some photos of flowers just because they’re pretty and I really enjoy them…

I have no idea where I’ll be living a year from now. That’s sounds very cryptic but it just means I’m open to whatever comes my way. I could be living in the same house, or I could be in another state. But I hope where ever I am I can have flowers. These ones have me aching for a massive garden of my own. I want my own personal field of wild flowers, a little bit of everything and lots of color.

These were all taken with my birthday lens, the 50mm f/1.2. I’m still madly in love with that lens. It weighs about ten tons but by golly, it is magic! I don’t know about you but when I save money for a while to buy something or put off buying something for a while when I finally get it it’s kind of just like “okay…cool… I have this thing now.” I was a bit worried that I would have hyped up this lens in my mind for so long that it wouldn’t live up to expectations. Yeah, definitely not the case. Basically every time I take a photo with it, which is more than once a day, I still get all giddy over it.
