what I wore : the rose bowl

by Kaylah Stroup January 14, 2013
details
hat – thrifted
coat – vintage
dress – Dear Creatures (via Modcloth)
shirt – thrifted
cardigan – Modcloth
sweater clips – handmade
ring – c/o Sea of Bees
brooch – vintage
belt – Moss Mills via Fab
tights – Target
shoes –  Reading Room Romance Flat via Modcloth
camera bag – Jo Totes

How lovely is this vintage coat? I got it back in August on my annual birthday antiquing roadtrip. Last stop of the day about ten minutes before we were about to walk out of the antique mall I spotted it. Love at first sight!! It’s the softest velvety material.

Despite how soft it is and how perfect the color is my favorite part might just be what I found in the pocket. There was a ticket to the 1973 Pasadena Rose Bowl. It’s not the fact that it’s the Rose Bowl that is significant to me (I literally couldn’t care less about college football) but I’m just so in love with the fact that 40 years ago someone was wearing this coat. I know, obviously, that nearly all the vintage I own has had a previous owner but to put a real date and event on it makes it feel so special. I wonder who wore it, and what she wore with it.  I wonder if she’s still alive and I wonder what she’d think of someone discovering the coat 40 years from the time she wore it and absolutely loving it.

I don’t know about you but thinking about who owned something before I did is one of my very favorite things about buying vintage. Needless to say, I’m keeping the ticket in the pocket and maybe I’ll leave a movie stub from one I see while wearing the coat in it for the next person who owns it to find and hopefully enjoy.

Hope you’re having an excellent Monday!

what I wore : to the icy beach

by Kaylah Stroup January 10, 2013
 details
dress – Modcloth
sweater – thrifted
necklace – c/o Yellow Heart Art
belt – thrifted
socks – Target
shoes – thrifted
camera bag – Jo Totes

I’ve definitely said it a hundred times before (and I’ll probably say it a hundred more) but I really love the beach this time of the year. Sure the beach is awesome during the summer when it’s sunny out and the water is warm but it’s really interesting to see it with snow, and ice on the sand. It’s like a whole different place (not exactly as foreign as when it’s really snowy out but still!) I never want to live far from the beach.

I bought this dress a while back when Modcloth had a big sale. I was instantly smitten with the colors and had to have it. I’d been hoarding it away to wear on the perfect fall day. I envisioned frolicking in the fallen leaves in it. But that time frame came and went to quickly I never got the chance. So I figured I may as well just wear it now instead. Frolicking around on the icy beach isn’t quite as nice as in the woods during the fall (dude, it was cold) but hey, I still had lots of fun searching for treasures and taking pictures!

ps. did you spot the picture where you can see through my septum?

What I wore; Party Time!

by Kaylah Stroup November 21, 2011
the details:
coat – forever 21 (from at least 5 years ago!)
skirt and shirt set – estate sale (FIFTY CENTS!)
belt – modcloth
sweater –thrifted
tooth pin – Rachel O’s on etsy
acorn pin – c/o Sugar Cookie
tights – We Love Colors

shoes – Soho c/o Wanted Shoes

This is what I wore to my grandpa’s 80th birthday surprise party last weekend.  I tried to pick out something at least moderately conservative (read: tattoos covered) Some days you just don’t feel like talking about them, especially with all your great aunts who don’t have filters from their brains to their mouths. The party was great, my grandpa was totally surprised and had a blast! He can’t stop talking about it!
Before the party I had a few hours to waste, so we headed to the cemetery. I figured there would be somewhere in there pretty to take outfit photos. Plus it was a beautiful day and I love exploring cemeteries! I love looking at all the old headstones, calculating how old they were, and imagining what they were like. Lets not forget what awesome names everyone had, so strong and powerful – I’m pretty jealous! I took a bunch of photos but afterwards realized I’d be much happier if the photos were film, not digital! I guess that just means we’ll have to go back again!
Hope you’re having a great Monday! I’ve got a busy one. Thanksgiving is sneaking up and I have so much to do before taking a little holiday break. (Don’t worry, I’ll still be blogging daily!)

what we wore : no bones about it redux

by Kaylah Stroup October 31, 2017

skeleton dog costume, green hair, skeleton leggings

details
hoodie – Target (little boys section, last year)
sunglasses – Claudia via Foster Grant
leggings – skeleton leggings via Hot Topic (on clearance now!)
shoes – saddle shoes via Amazon
Klaus’ outfit – Target (two years ago)

First and foremost,

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Klaus and I actually did this same thing two years ago. (Here!) Buuut I love that post so much I wanted to do it again. Even though he’s worn this little costume almost to smithereens, it still makes me smile every time I see him in it. I was even hoping Target would be carrying them again this year so I could buy a replacement. Alas, no luck there.

Lots of things have changed since that first post, most noticeably my hair length! In the time since I also managed to get my hands on a skeleton sweatshirt that fits really nicely which is kind of a huge deal! Don’t mind if I do, Target’s little boys section! We’re still the same cool bony buds though.

what Professor wore

by Kaylah Stroup August 1, 2016
Pets by Carvas, cat bowtie
bowtie by PETS by Carvas

A while ago in my Friday Favorites I featured a cat collar with a little bowtie on it… because dressed up pets will always be my favorite, duh! Then last week I got an email from the maker of that collar wanting to know if I’d like one for as a thank you. I accepted, and chose one I thought would look good on Professor. I figured I’d share a photo on instagram to thank them for their generosity but once I saw Professor in it there was no way I could keep all this cuteness to myself.

I was a little worried that he would scratch at it but I don’t think he has any idea that there is something different on his neck from his regular collar. Squid doesn’t wear a collar but Professor normally wears one with a little bell because he’s a trouble maker. With his bowtie he looks like a real professor! Plus the color really brings out his eyes. I took so many darn photos of this kitty. I could just eat him up. Anyway, enough talk! It’s time for photos…

siamese cat, bowtie, professor stingray

Hope you’re having a lovely Monday! Thanks again to PETS by Carvas for making Professor look even cuter than normal. Seeing him in it makes me smile every single time. I’m definitely going to need to get this guy another one.

what we wore : high in love

Cleveland Fashion Blog

kaylah’s details;

sunglasses – Moorea Seal

dress – Modcloth  (same dress but in a different color!)
cardigan – Marshalls
pins – pizza + bossy c/o Moorea Seal
shoes – Modcloth

jeff’s details;
shirt – Black Market
shoes – Asics

Whenever I go to my parent’s house I try to take outfit photos. The main reason outfit photos came to a bit of a halt when I moved to Cleveland was that I just didn’t know where to take them. As a shy person, setting up a tripod somewhere that a lot of people are and posing for photos by yourself is basically out of the question. It’s just weird. In the last two years I’ve found a handful of spots that are fairly reliable places to shoot but nothing compares to the complete lack of people at my parent’s house. When I get there I normally go say hi to everyone, leave Klaus with them, and head off to take pictures before I inevitably get dirty. If you didn’t know, I am a dirt magnet.

On this occasion when I told my mom I was going to go take outfit photos she said “Both of you? Everyone looooves when you do those!” So although it wasn’t in the plans, I was “forced” to take photos with my handsome dude. (We totally would have coordinated if I thought of it before leaving the house!) I wasn’t sold on the photos as we took them. They just weren’t wow-ing me but I’m pleased with how cute they turned out. We really should do this more often.
xoxo

Also, why stilts? Because they were leaned up against the garage and when there are stilts near by you can’t just not use them as a prop! Duh!

what we wore : no bones about it

by Kaylah Stroup October 29, 2015
dog skeleton costume, skeleton

Way before I ever adopted Klaus I wanted to get a dog of my own so I could dress him or her up in a skeleton costume. I don’t know why but something about dogs in skeleton costumes just melted my heart. I kind of forgot about that until I saw this one at Target. I told Jeff about it later and explained how badly I wanted it but didn’t know when Klaus would actually wear it. He was like “Get it! He can wear it all the time!” That’s a good man, justifying my stupid purchases. So next trip to the store Klaus got a skeleton costume and all my stupid little dreams came true. I didn’t think it was possible for this puppy to get any cuter but I was proven wrong. He will totally be wearing this thing all year long. I own skeleton footie pjs so I guess Klaus and I will be able to match in the evenings in the winter too!

Unrelated to this outfit post but in the spirit of Halloween I crossed off one of my big fall goals – visiting a haunted house! I’ve had two experiences with haunted houses in the past. The first was with my mom, and brother when I was eleven or twelve. I spent the whole time with my face buried in my brother’s back. I didn’t look at single thing. The second time was in Niagara Falls the next year. I wanted to redeem myself after the first haunted house so my aunt and I bought tickets, walked maybe ten steps in and then I ran out. Since then I’ve just presumed haunted houses weren’t my thing and wrote them off. Even as a huge chicken, I loved the idea of haunted houses. I desperately wanted to be able to go so this year I made it one of my goals.

Last weekend myself and five of my friends visited Spooky Ranch. There is a fun house, haunted hay ride, 3-D clown house, and “extreme nightmares” haunted house. You guys, I don’t remember the last time I had that much fun. IT WAS A BLAST. Seriously, I can’t think about it without getting this massive cheesy grin on my face. We actually all had so much fun that while waiting in line for the last attraction we started looking up other nearby haunted houses so that we wouldn’t have to call it a night. Sadly it was too late and we wouldn’t be able to make it to another before they closed for the night.

I’m bummed I missed out on haunted houses all these years but I guess I’ve got the rest of my life to enjoy them. I cannot wait to go to another!

what we wore : black + white

by Kaylah Stroup June 9, 2015
my details
shirt – c/o
shorts – c/o
boots – Palladium Boots
camera bag – Bellbrook via JoTotes

jeff’s details
shirt – CLE Clothing Co.
shorts – Levi’s
shoes – Toms

I love the idea of taking outfit photos with Jeff except it’s basically impossible for us to take photos together that aren’t just a lovey dovey mess. At one point I stopped to say “we cannot have every photo be of us kissing!” so he then put me in a headlock and tried to take prom style photos. Not going to lie though, I love love love all the mushy photos of us together. I don’t normally save too many outtakes when I take outfit photos by myself but I save so many of the two of us. What can I say, I just think we’re the cutest. On a semi related note : At an estate sale shortly after we started dating a woman running the sale came up to us and said “You two are so cute you should be on a cake” That still cracks me up. It’s such a funny statement.

By the time this post goes live we’ll be on the other side of the United States starting our second big road trip together so today seems like a pretty cute time to post these photos. I’ve got this whole week queued up with fun posts so nothing here will seem any different despite the fact I won’t be around too much. I’m sure we’ll also be extra active on instagram. You can follow the trip on on both of our instagram accounts – mine + Jeff’s

what we wore : twins!

by Kaylah Stroup December 17, 2012

 details
glasses – BonLook
sweater – Modcloth
dress – Modcloth
necklace – c/o Hannah Zakari
belt – thrifted
ring – c/o Sea of Bees
tights – Modcloth
shoes – Romwe
When Elycia showed up to my house with the same dress as one I had I knew we had to wear them together, no matter how dorky that would be! We talked about how it would be neat to show how we’d style the same dress but in reality that kind of failed because we have extremely similar styles – a dress + a cardigan + long necklace + tights + snazzy shoes = the perfect outfit to us, clearly. I think it’s kind of funny we even wore the same cardigan just in different colors. Great minds think alike I suppose. 😉

Hope you have an excellent Monday!
