project 365 : days 128 – 134

by Kaylah Stroup May 15, 2017

128 : 365 Afternoon rainbows. You guys, I swear, this sun catcher was one of the best things I’ve ever purchased. I basically take pictures of the rainbows it produces every single day. You can read more about my sun catcher in this post.

129 : 365 Mason’s Creamery for an afternoon treat. Spice baklava ice cream with churros. It was a faaaabulous combination.

cleveland ice cream, masons creamery, churros

130 : 365 I finally got my paws on a huge frame which means I definitely shot photos of my office to share with you later this week.

you go girl graffiti print, witch hands, hugo girl

131 : 365 Remember how in a recent Friday Favorites post I shared that link to the twelve air plants plus fertilizer for just $22? Yeah, that happened. I’m so stoked! They’re all different, and one is even flowering right now!!!

deer skull, air plant display

132 : 365 Bikes with my boys! The first photo was taken after hopping up on to the sidewalk to walk instead of bike so we could pick up all the random loose change we were finding on the street. We made it a little game to see who could find the most. I found a total of thirty-six cents but Jeff still won.

state bicycle, pink fixed gear, hot pink fixie

133 : 365 Jeff took me out for donuts, from Peace, Love and Little Donuts, before I had to head to the flower shop for the day. I don’t think I’m ever going to get over how amazing these donuts are. They’re always so hot and fresh. The one in the top right corner was apple pie, and it was incredible.

134 : 365 Mother’s Day at my parent’s house – Klaus & my dad (forever melting my heart when they’re together!), tiny things shot with my macro lens, & a baby flying squirrel.

Hope your week is off to a wonderful start. I’ve got the rest of the week here on the blog queued up since I’ll be a little preoccupied watching the sunrise in ghost towns, and hunting for ocean life along the coast. If you’re not already following along on instagram, it might be a good time to start! šŸ˜‰

project 365 : days 121 – 127

by Kaylah Stroup May 8, 2017

121 : 365 Beach finds for the day. I’m in love with that piece of pottery in the last photo. Those are always a favorite of mine to find. I also really love the shot below, taken right when the water washed into my little arrangement.

beach glass arrangement, lake erie, beach glass, cleveland army man, flotsam army

122 : 365 An outtake from the little photoshoot for my ‘how to clean up hair dye messes‘ post. I spent so long trying to get one of the animals to go lay on my pillow but it just wasn’t happening. I like Professor’s stupid face in this shot though. He’s such a silly little thing. Klaus’s posture kind of makes it look like Professor said something really mean to him.

Another photo from Tuesday. Jeff picked up sushi on his way home from work. You guys, it blows my mind that a couple of years ago I was the pickiest eater I had ever met and now one of my favorite foods is eel. I could eat sushi every single day and not get sick of it.

123 : 365 I love how the light filters in through the blinds here. I truly love every corner of this apartment.

124 : 365 My “uh-oh I haven’t taken a photo yet today, better snap one of a plant before it gets dark outside” photo. It was a busy day. We booked a spur of the moment vacation, I worked at the flower shop then we got tacos with friends.

125 : 365 Incense and cactus. I’ve had that stupid shark trash can for probably six years and I still crack up over it. Easily one of the best things I have EVER found at a thrift store.

126 : 365 I took a quick trip to the beach to check out the lake since it was stormy. It was SO cold, and the waves were just wild! Most of the beach had been swallowed up by water. I also created a hashtag for my long exposure ghostly

I also created a hashtag for my long exposure ghostly self portraits – #ghostkaylah. Hopefully that’ll be a nice little push to take more of those. I think they’re really rad.

127 : 365 Chasing waterfalls!

Ohio Waterfall

Happy Monday!

project 365 : days 114 – 120

by Kaylah Stroup May 1, 2017

114 : 365 Just a crazy catnip kitten.

115 : 365 Beach glass finds for the day. So many tiny blue pieces, and unique shades of green. I even managed to find a yellow, and two reds. I’d call it a successful trip to the beach.

116 : 365 My favorite plant, and an obvious favorite photo subject when I’ve got nothing else.

117 : 365 Water thief.

118 : 365 Last Friday of the month means one thing – Critical Mass! Literally the best day of the month, every month. My brother and his family came up to Cleveland and joined us for the ride. It was a blast. I was super nervous because it was raining right up until starting time. It stopped long enough for us to get in nearly ten miles though, and the rain only picked up again as we got back to our cars. Talk about perfect timing! Also, check out that shark horn. My bike is so snazzy.

119 : 365 My air plant is getting some color to it!

120 : 365 A peek at my office. I’m dying to shoot, and share more photos of this room but I desperately need to buy a frame for a massive print I have. It’s kind of the star piece in the room but it’s driving me nuts that it isn’t framed. Not only is it super large but the print is also a funny size so it’s going to be super expensive and I’m just dreading spending the money.Ā

Happy Monday!

project 365 : days 107 – 113

by Kaylah Stroup April 24, 2017

107 : 376 I finally got to meet Allie from The Only Living Girl in New York. We met up for a solid day of exploring, and good food. We tried a handful of different abandoned buildings around the area that I thought were sure things but got shut down every single one of them. It was almost comical. Almost. We were almost ready to call it a day but decided after eating lunch that the abandoned trailer park, despite it’s distance, would be a good choice. It definitely was. I’ve already blogged about it five times in the past (links here) but you can expect another post in the coming week or two because of course I took more photos.

108 : 365 Professor checking out my anniversary flowers from Jeff. Cute photos to celebrate our three year anniversary can be found here. Also, in case you’re curious, those strange green stripes on him are actually rainbows from my sun catcher!

109 : 365 The only photos I took this day were for the post announcing The Dainty Squid’s new website. Thank you all for all the kind words on the big change. I’m still over the moon about it.

110 : 365 Jeff text me as soon as he left for work that it was really foggy and that I should get out to take photos. I finished my coffee, headed straight out but somehow still managed to miss the bulk of the fog. All was not lost though, I found a little snail who was happy to be photographed, created a new found on the beach arrangement, and pet my very first poodle.

111 : 365 I was juuuust about to walk out the front door when I spotted this little guy stuck in my rug. He was a perfect little model that sat absolutely still for my photos. Every time I pick up my macro lens I wonder ‘why in the heck don’t I use this more often?’

112 : 365 I had the most lovely Saturday. Jeff and I woke up early only to move from the bed to the couch where we cuddled and watched Ridiculousness for a few hours. (I really love that show, and I appreciate that it’s basically always on.) Then we made breakfast, hung out at the beach, cruised around Cleveland aimlessly, made dinner, cleaned together, and finished the series we were watching. It was just a super relaxing day, exactly what I always expect weekends should be like.

113 : 365 Spotted this perfect cactus shadow in my kitchen.

Happy Monday!

project 365 : days 100 – 106

by Kaylah Stroup April 17, 2017

Ā 100 : 365Ā Things I’ve collected from the beach. I’m not a hoarder, I swear.

101 : 365 Absolutely could not resist this pink denim jacket, no idea what patches I want to sew on it yet though. This one seems like a pretty good option though.

102 : 365 Apparently Professor will wear a tiny cowboy hat when bribed with treats. Can’t believe it took me so long to figure this out. Also, there are more photos on my instagram, and his!

103 : 365 You know what’s fun? Finding a present you stashed away for yourself! I packed this candle away without ever lighting it before moving at the beginning of the year and just recently discovered it. It smells SO DARN GOOD.

104 : 365 Finally managed to capture some photos of the elusive Squid hanging out in one of her favorite spots.

105 : 365 Jeff and I spent a good portion of the day in the kitchen together. We baked two pies including an apple one from scratch! It was a blast. So… the apple pie was a little bit more tart than we would have preferred but it was so much fun working together like that. Here’s a peek at our lunch and dinner.Ā

106 : 365 Snapshots from our Easter family hike. I’m kiiiiind of obsessed with this mushroom shot. I was pouting about not having my macro lens but I’m thinking I nailed that shot anyway.Ā

Love love love this photo of Jeff and my dad. I’ve heard the saying that men marry women like their mothers but I feel like maybe women look for men like their fathers too. It didn’t take long for me to realize that Jeff and my dad are a lot alike in many ways. Both love stumping people with dumb trivia, easily make people feel comfortable around them, and apparently they’re both part mountain goat.

Happy Monday! Hope your week is off to a lovely start.

project 365 : days 93 – 99

by Kaylah Stroup April 10, 2017

93 : 365 Office vibes.

94 : 365 Send help, I can’t resist a good notepad. TJ Maxx always has the hook up!

95 : 365 My favorite shirt by Daisy Natives. I love the smiles I get from other ladies when I wear it. Also, lemme just comment on how much I loooove this lipstick. It’s so good!!

96 : 365 This planter and air plant are a match made in heaven.

97 : 365 The relationship Jeff and Professor have melts my heart. They are seriously the absolute cutest.

98 : 365 I’m still not tired of the rainbows this sun catcher creates. I love that the rainbows move across the room as the sun moves across the sky. Its always fun to catch them somewhere new.

And here’s my puppy, once again making that face that Jenny’s roommate makes in Forrest Gump. (Here if you need a refresher.)

99 : 365 More Klaus! Jeff was sick all weekend and spent the majority of time snoozing on the couch Klaus kept him company THE WHOLE TIME. It was really, really sweet. I truly think pets know when you need a little extra lovin’. I’ve also never met a dog that loved to cuddle as much as this huge dork.

Happy Monday! Hope your week is off to an awesome start.

project 365 : days 86 – 92

by Kaylah Stroup April 3, 2017

86 : 365 Office plants.

87 : 365 This is more toy soldiers and plastic animals than I’ve ever found in one single trip to the beach. I try to make it a point to not bring anything I pick up on the beach home with me unless I have plans to shoot it again but I really think these lake weathered toy soldiers would make a neat collection.

88 : 365 A very suspicious kitten.

And another…

89 : 365 Just a shelf in my office. I can’t believe I’ve been in this apartment for three solid months now and haven’t share an office tour yet. I’m still constantly rearranging in here though, trying to find the perfect feel. This shelf did photograph nicely but to be honest, I’m not in love with it. I can definitely do a better job creating a nice display.

90 : 365 Working hard on the new site. Wait. You did notice The Dainty Squid got a major facelift, correct? I worked my buns off. There were a few minor glitches (including the transferring of my domain name taking longer than expected which is why you might be having some trouble with links not going exactly where they should right now. I’m hoping to get that fixed as soon as the transfer goes through.) but I’m still so so so happy with how it turned out.

91 : 365 Nothing new, just poking around.

92 : 365 I just happened to notice a clump of black things on top of a electric box I was walking by. I assumed it was rotting leaves but upon further inspection it was a bunch of boxelder bugs. I’ve never seen them hanging out in such a big bunch like this but when I did a tiny bit of research I found that they’re considered a nuisance simply because they enter homes in large numbers so I guess hanging out like that is totally their thing.

Happy Monday!

project 365 : days 79 – 85

by Kaylah Stroup March 27, 2017
79 : 365 Lots of stripes and overalls lately, not that that is anything new.
Lapel pin by Valley Cruise Press.
80 : 365 Favorite plant, favorite puppy. Both love the sunshine.
81 : 365 I recently saw on instagram that Flambeauxs teamed up with my favorite graffiti artist to make some candles. Obviously hit “add to cart” real darn quick on that.

82 : 365 My dudesĀ + I did a little poking around underground. I didn’t take too many photos down there but I did take this one that I ended up really loving it. It’s not the usual style of photography that I share on instagram so I made a comment about how it probably wouldn’t get very many likes… then it ended up getting a comically large number of likes. (Here) I wish I had more to share from that night but if you’re interested in seeing more underground stuff, I posted a bunch of photos back in November.

83 : 365 You guys, I really really love this cat. He makes me smile every single day. He acts so excited to see me every morning, like he’s been deprived of cuddles and kisses for the last eight hours. He’s good people.
84 : 365 Another pin close up! I’ve got the full outfit post coming up later this week.
85 : 365 Taking dumb photos of my pets is honestly one of my favorite hobbies, if you hadn’t guessed that already.

Happy Monday!
xoxo

project 365 : days 65 – 71

by Kaylah Stroup March 13, 2017
65 : 365 I recently started (and very quickly tore through) Smoke Gets in Your Eyes. I’ll save my full review for the next “What I’ve Been Reading” post but I will tell you that I absolutely looooved it, and that you should probably just start reading it now.

Last Monday is also the day I picked up The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild from my po box. I don’t even have the words to explain how much I love this game. I like it so much it might have even knock Ocarina of Time to my number two spot! Whaaaa!?
66 : 365 Just an owl I live with.

67 : 365 My mom came out to spend the day with me. We shopped, ate, and got cute photobooth pictures taken.

68 : 365 I wish I could reach into this photo and tie Klaus’ bandana. Drives me nuts when it comes undone.
69 : 365 A rare photo of Squid and Professor together. Both are cats that love to snuggle, just not with each other for some reason. They are united by their love of string tied to the broom dangling over their head though – which is what they’re looking at.
70 : 365 Jeff and I took a quick weekend trip to Pittsburgh. It ended up being kind of a bust. The weather was much much colder than we had planned for, and we got shot down at every abandoned spot we tried for. We even got yelled at by a mustachioed old man who placed his hand on his hip to casually flash a gun. Bro, we’re two harmless people with cameras. Chiiiiill. Anyway, the highlight of the trip was Ace Hotel! Our room was insanely cute, and all the little details were precious. I’m definitely interested in staying at other Ace Hotel locations!

71 : 365 Oh, no biggie, just my skeleton modeling one of my plants.

Hope your week is off to an excellent start!
